I like the way the editor, like so many others, implies that Mexicans were the very first people to ever live in the American Southwest.

But personally, I believe a little clarity is in order. By Mexicans, I assume the editor means post-Spanish conquest (not the Mexica, an alternate name for the Aztecs). So basically the Spanish occupied Arizona before the US, and the Hopi, Navajo, & Apache before them. Just guestimating -- I believe the Anasazi, Hohokam, & Mogollon have the title rights to Arizona. So if we're to return it to the rightful owners, that would be the Hopi (descendants of the Pueblo peoples).

And I would not be opposed to this, or a modified version. Since we cheated the Hopi, Navajo, & Apache, let's give them Arizona & New Mexico. Let them decide their own border policy, & the US won't have to wring its hands over how bad we look to the noble Mexicans when we try to assert sovereignty over our territory.
